VISITORS TO 18TH AIDS TRUST SYDNEY FOOD & WINE FAIR HELP TO RAISE OVER $80,000

Thousands of Sydneysiders descended on Hyde Park North on November 1 to enjoy the iconic fundraising event for the AIDS Trust of Australia, the Sydney Food & Wine Fair. With the generous support of over 20,000 visitors, over 100 stall holders and 200 volunteers, the AIDS Trust raised over $80,000 which will fund initiatives for HIV/AIDS prevention, support, care and research.

As the major fundraising event on the AIDS Trust calendar, the fair is essential for the organisation in ensuring it is able to continue supporting projects for the coming year. This year’s event featured offerings from premium restaurants, producers and wineries including Cafe Sydney, Quay, Guillaume @ Bennelong, Buon Ricordo, Wildfire, Icebergs, Scarborough Wines, Hungerford Hill Wines, Wyndham Estate and Brown Brothers.

Celebrating its 18th year as one of Sydney’s longest standing and most popular events, a new logo and look was unveiled signifying a coming of age for the fair. As a fresh initiative, this year’s event included a produce market supported by Vogue Entertaining + Travel which is set to continue and grow in coming years.

Jan McKenzie of Cafe Sydney and Sydney Food & Wine Fair ambassador said the thousands of visitors who attended this year’s event was further testament to its popularity as one of Australia’s most renowned fundraisers.

“The atmosphere on the of the fair day is highly enjoyable for everyone involved, it unites the hospitality industry with everyone putting on a great show for an even greater cause,” said McKenzie.

The fair featured performances by popular artists Sister Madly, Gin Wigmore and Emma Donovan which continued well into the evening on the main stage.

Chief Executive to the AIDS Trust of Australia Nick Toonen said the 18th AIDS Trust Sydney Food & Wine Fair had been a great success, with funds raised to be used for projects assisting those living with HIV/AIDS in Australia.

“The fair is an incredible culmination of fine food and wine, which would not be possible without the thousands of visitors who attend and hundreds of people who volunteer to make each year more exciting and delicious than the last,” said Mr Toonen.

Following this year’s successful event, plans are already being made for next year’s event as organisers look to continue building the fair beyond its 18th year. As a must-attend event on Sydney calendars, the Sydney Food & Wine Fair will be back – bigger, bolder and brighter than ever in 2009. www.aidstrust.com.au
