One of the longest standing and most successful food and wine fairs in Australia will once again take place in Sydney's Hyde Park on Saturday 1st November 2008, as part of the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Month. Now in its 18th year, the 2008 event will build on the success and popularity of past years, with a fantastic line-up of top restaurants and wine companies. Taking place in Hyde Park North, with food and wine being served from midday, the Sydney Food & Wine Fair is an astonishing showcase of the diversity and excellence that makes up the Sydney dining experience, incorporating premium offerings from some of the best vineyards and wine companies in the country. Keeping the fun and festivities rolling well into the afternoon the Breville Piazza Stage will crackle with live performances, DJs and special guest stars donating their talents to the event. The Chair of the AIDS Trust of Australia, Robert Furley announced on 18 March 2008 that the Governors had appointed Nick Toonen as their new Chief Executive Officer. Mr Furley said, “Nick is a past General Manager of the Tasmanian AIDS Council, board member of the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations and member ofthe Tasmanian HIV/AIDS Ministerial Advisory Committee. He understands the HIV sector and the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. “ “We are thrilled that the AIDS Trust of Australia has been able to attract someone of Nick’s calibre and skill to lead the next stage of our growth”. Nick Toonen received the Order of Australia Medal in 2003 for "service to the community as a human rights advocate, particularly through promoting the rights of gay and lesbian people" as a result of his role in the Tasmanian gay law reform campaign. “The AIDS Trust and AIDS Councils (or their equivalent) across Australia as well as theAustralian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) recently entered into a memorandum of understanding which will for the first time enable national fundraising efforts for HIV programs and services.” “The Governors are very pleased to be able to appoint someone with such great skills and a commitment to people living with HIV/AIDS and the GLBT community more generally. Nick will be a great driver of the AIDS Trust’s mission”, Mr Furley said. |

New fundraising partnership |

 The Chair of the AIDS Trust, Robert Furley, announced on 1 February 2008 a new approach to national fundraising and sponsorship in the Australian HIV/AIDS sector. The AIDS Trust and the AIDS Councils (or their equivalent) across Australia as well as the Australian Federation of AIDS organisations recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding which will, for the first time, enable national fundraising efforts for HIV programs and services. Mr Furley commented "the Governors of the Trust are confident that a truly national approach will improve fundraising and sponsorship outcomes across Australia. We are looking forward to working with the AIDS Councils and AFAO to achieve that goal."
